Connor McGregor May Have a Future in Porn

Connor McGregor May Have a Future in Porn

One day after school in eighth grade, before the biggest game of the year, my lacrosse team gathered at a teammate’s house. The game wasn’t until five, so we had two hours to kill. We occupied ourselves for a half an hour by wrestling each other in the front yard. When that got boring, our host, a skinny toe-head with a sunken chest, coaxed us inside to view a porno that he had found in his brother’s room. We gathered in the basement around a tiny TV as our host popped the video cassette in the VCR (keep in mind this was 15 years ago), and we elbowed and punched each other, battling for supremacy and a first-row spot. And then we watched in near silence as the beautiful, half-plastic woman enthusiastically accepted the inhuman positions her hairy, well-endowed co-star contorted her into. The silence continued for a long time and wasn’t broken until one of the boys asked, “How does that guy last so long?” We were young and didn’t know much. There was a spate of inaccurate theories, and we all argued how it was possible for anyone to have such super human stamina. It never occurred to us that any time the camara angle changed, it meant a chance for the guy “reset.”

Why am I sharing my first porn viewing experience with the boxing world? Well, the given tactics of Team McGregor and Dana White, the porn industry’s tricky use of camera angles has been on my mind. That’s basically what they’ve been doing, after all—manipulating film footage to make Connor McGregor look better than he is.

They did it first with Chris Van Heerden, editing video footage of Van Heerden dominating McGregor to make Van Heerden look like an amateur next to McGregor. Roughly two months later, we got the leaked photos and video footage from McGregor’s sparring sessions with Paulie Malignaggi. Most of us know the timeline of what went down in that he said/she said debacle. But the most amazing thing is that, when showed video on camera in real time by Fight Hub TV even professional boxers were duped. Shawn Porter said, “That’s a knockdown.” Jessie Vargas was more diplomatic than Porter, but he couldn’t stop himself from laughing, apparently at Malignaggi’s expense.

For anyone still convinced that Malignaggi is lying and that McGregor knocked him down, please view this youtube commentary by HatmanStrikesBack:

By slowing down the video, we can see that nearly everything Malignaggi claims is true. Yes, McGregor lands a clean left hand in the first clip and then gets Malignaggi against the ropes. McGregor later claimed, “The spars were not good for him. He took a lot of head trauma. We were actually worried about him…. He was flattened against the ropes; multiple times the ropes kept him on his feet. We were worried about him. We thought the worst was about to happen.” McGregor’s supposed compassion should be enough to alert us to the fact that he’s lying (megalomaniacs by definition lack empathy). But if McGregor really had Malignaggi against the ropes to the point where he was doing damage to Malignaggi, why suddenly cut to a new clip? The answer is simple: because McGregor’s lying. An opportunist like McGregor wouldn’t miss a chance to show something like that.

As for the second clip that’s spliced to the first, McGregor and his team were able to trick so many of us by simply playing with the camera angles, which of course is another tactic they learned from the porn industry. There’s a Reddit thread entitled, “Porn Actors of Redditt, what is something the viewers REALLY don’t know?” One self-proclaimed porn industry jack-of-all-trades gives it to us straight: “the angles are all fake. when you see that closeup … its bc they positioned to the side, and only like an inch or two is going in and out.” On the same thread, an adult film actress with over 40 years in the business has this say: “If it looks like we’re holding that crazy fucking position for five minutes- it’s more like thirty second clips I’ll ask for a cut, go smoke a cigarette, stretch, slap some lube on and get back in it.” What can we learn from this? If it looks too good to be real, it is. If you’ve already watched the slowed down sparring video, you know that in the second clip, McGregor fails to land all shots and is, just as Paulie Malignaggi claims, resorts to pushing down on Malignaggi’s head. As for Paulie Malignaggi being concussed… I think I’ll take Angelo Reyes’s word over McGregor’s.

After McGregor’s imminent defeat on August 26, many believe he will retire. He’ll have no future in boxing, obviously, and any money the UFC can offer him will be negligible to what he’s making to fight Mayweather. But there may still be a lucrative option out there for him.

On the same Reddit thread as mentioned above, a former porn producer attests, “Women make WAY more than men, but their acts are itemized. They’re paid for what they do. Girl-girl, guy-girl, anal, DP, ATM, foreign insertion, etc. Back in 03’, a girl could make $2,500 a scene depending on what she did. Men only around $500. But, if you’re willing to get f*cked by another guy, then your rate matches women.” Granted, $2500 may not seem like very much for someone like Connor McGregor, but surely someone with his name recognition would be able to negotiate a higher salary than that. He may be well suited for this kind of work. After all, we’ve already seen him sport the fur-coat-over-bare-chest look. He also claims to have a big dick. And what reason has McGregor given us to doubt his word?
