Three Chinese players will feature in Saturday’s semifinal matches, as No.4 seed Wang Yafan and unseeded Xinyun Han also advanced with straight-set victories.
Han dropped just three games to end the run of American Danielle Lao, 6-1, 6-2, while Wang had the toughest match of the trio, but eventually defeated No.8 seeded compatriot Zhu Lin, 6-4, 7-6(5).
Rounding out the quartet is No.6 seed and former US Open semifinalist Yanina Wickmayer, who dropped just four games in defeating qualifier Mai Minokoshi, 6-1, 6-3.
The former World No.12 has surrendered just 15 games in six sets played this week, with her toughest match being a 6-3, 6-4 first-round victory over two-time Grand Slam finalist and former World No.2 Vera Zvonareva.
Wang pulled double-duty after winning her singles match to begin Friday’s play, as she and partner Duan Ying-Ying, the No.4 seeds in the doubles draw, held off a charge from Han and Zvonareva, 6-1, 6-7(4), 10-4 to reach the doubles final.
